Tacloban to mark 10th 'Yolanda' anniversary as celebration of life
TACLOBAN CITY – The 10th anniversary of super typhoon “Yolanda” (international name “Haiyan”) on November 8 will be a celebration of life and thanksgiving to all the countries, individuals, and organizations that helped this city recover from the disaster in 2013.
Malu Tabao, city tourism officer, said preparations are an inter-agency activity and a weekly coordination meeting is held to ensure the flow of activities leading to the commemoration.
"The ninth anniversary commemoration was more solemn and focused on the religious aspect, but this year will celebrate life to thank God, the non-government organizations, and other nations that helped the city get back on its feet," she said.
Activities include a fun run, a resiliency forum by the Office of Civil Defense, and Handa Pilipinas forum of the Department of Science and Technology. Major activities will be held on November 7 and 8.
"It will be like a mini-reunion. We sent out invitations to the organizations that helped us for the resiliency forum and other events on November 8," Tabao said.
She said that President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has not yet confirmed his attendance to the event.
However, the Chief Executive attended the mass and program in the mass grave at the Holy Cross Memorial Cemetery here last year.
