Actor Ricardo Cepeda has spoken up about his arrest for alleged syndicated estafa.

During an exclusive interview on "24 Oras" on GMA Network last Tuesday, Cepeda pointed out he's only an endorser of the company involved in the complaint.

"I was shocked because I didn't, I wasn't aware na umabot sa may warrants ako. I had heard na may mga scam daw but 'di ko alam na sinama nila ako," Cepeda said.

(I was shocked because I wasn't aware that I had warrants. I had heard that there were scams, but I didn't know they involved me.)

Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDU) Chief PMAJ. Dondon Llapitan said Cepeda did not resist arrest. The actor was detained at Camp Karingal in Quezon City. Syndicated estafa case is a non-bailable offense.

Llapitan said the 58-year-old actor was attending an event when the arrest warrant was served.

"Nagulat rin po siya nung sinilbihan natin siya ng warrant of arrest. Nagko-conduct po siya ng ribbon-cutting sa area. Inaresto po natin siya nung bago palang po magkaroon ribbon cutting," Llapitan also said.

(He was also surprised when we served him with an arrest warrant. He was conducting a ribbon-cutting in the area. We arrested him just before there was a ribbon cutting.)

Police did not reveal the amount involved in the estafa case.

Cepeda said he is not connected with the company, adding that his name does not appear in the business registration.

"Wala ako sa running business, anything of the company. Model lang ako about the products."

(I'm not in the running business, anything of the company. I'm just a model about the products.)

GMA News said that aside from the 23 counts of syndicated estafa, the actor has another warrant of arrest due to bouncing check and another three counts of violation of RA No. 8799, or Securities Regulation Code.

"Ito po'y nangyari sa area ng Cagayan sa Sanchez Mira," Llapitan added. (This happened in the Cagayan area in Sanchez Mira.)
