Pasig LGU evacuates City Hall workers as 5.0-magnitude tremor shakes metro

Pasig City Hall workers and visitors were evacuated on Friday, Oct. 13, after a magnitude 5.0 quake shook the province of Batangas that was also felt in other provinces and in Metro Manila.

"Agad na lumikas ang mga empleyado at bisita ng Pasig City Hall sa kani-kaniyang designated evacuation areas matapos maramdaman at maitala ang intensity II na lindol sa Pasig maging sa mga karatig lugar (Employees and visitors of the Pasig City Hall were immediately evacuated to their respective designated evacuation areas after recording an intensity II quake in Pasig and nearby areas)," the city government said.

"Kasalukuyang nagsasagawa ng assessment ang Pasig City Rapid Damage and Needs Analysis Team, sa pangunguna ng City Engineering Department, upang i-check ang mga posibleng pinsala na dulot ng lindol sa city hall at maging sa iba pang imprastraktura sa City Hall Compound, at siguruhing ligtas ang mga empleyado at mga bisita sa loob ng gusali (The Pasig City Rapid Damage and Needs Analysis Team led by the City Engineering Department is now conducting an assessment to check for possible damages in the city hall and other infrastructures at the City Hall Compound to ensure the safety of employees and visitors inside the building)," it added.

According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), the 5.0 magnitude quake struck 5 kilometers (km) southwest of Calaca, Batangas at 8:24 a.m.

It occurred at a shallow depth of 14 km beneath the epicenter.

Phivolcs said Intensity V (strong) was felt in Lemery, Batangas.

Intensity IV (moderately strong) was recorded in Cuenca, Bauan, Sta. Teresita, and San Luis in Batangas; Tagaytay City in Cavite; and Muntinlupa City, Metro Manila.

Intensity III was felt in Laurel and Batangas City in Batangas and Dolores, Quezon.

Meanwhile, the quake was “slightly felt” at Intensity II in Talisay and Rosario in Batangas; Magallanes, Cavite; Boac, Marinduque; Las Piñas City and Pasay City in Metro Manila; Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro; Mauban, Polillo, and Gumaca in Quezon; and Taytay and Antipolo in Rizal.

It was “scarcely perceptible” at Intensity I in Dinalupihan, Bataan; Malvar, Batangas; Malolos City and Guiguinto in Bulacan; Ternate, Cavite; Cebu City, Cebu; Candon, Ilocos Sur; San Pablo, Laguna; Malabon City, Pateros, San Juan City, and Parañaque City in Metro Manila; Abra De Ilog and Mamburao in Occidental Mindoro; Bani, Pangasinan; Lucban, Lucena City, and Alabat in Quezon; and Tanay, Rizal.

The agency said there may have been damage to infrastructures caused by the earthquake and cautioned the public for potential aftershocks.
