Agriculture in the Philippines must be industrialized given the increasing demand, President Marcos said.

Stressing that demand on agricultural products keeps rising amid various factors such as population density and geopolitical situations, Marcos said the country's agriculture sector must be transformed.
He made the statement when he joined San Miguel Corporation (SMC) President Ramon Ang in opening its poultry megafarm in Hagonoy, Davao del Sur on Thursday, Oct. 12.
Facilities that produce large-scale food products, he said, shows how the country could transform its agriculture sector.
"Because of the population density, the geopolitical situation right now, which just became a great deal worse. All of these factors come together and that is why we have pushed very, very hard to make sure that in the Philippines, by itself, we are able to feed our people," Marcos said in his speech.
"And we are showing — this facility such as this are showing the way how to do it. We must industrialize our agriculture," he stressed.
The President underscored that industrializing the agriculture sector would lead to sufficient food for the people at a price they can afford and allowing the producers and farmers to earn a living.
He said setting up a megafarm facility would eventually bring in the local community, cooperatives, farmers' associations together "so that they can partake of the advantages of such a plan economically."
"So, that is the balance that we are trying to achieve. This kind of facility goes a long way in achieving that.," he said.
Marcos joined Ang in inaugurating the facility in Hagonoy, which is one of the 12 planned poultry megafarm projects around the country that aims to produce 80 million birds or about 200 million kilos in live weight per farm to be harvested annually.
