Marcos directs all-out support to Pinoys in Israel; evacuation, repatriation plans readied

President Marcos ordered government agencies to explore all evacuation strategies to assist Filipinos affected by the war in Israel as he assured assistance to those who would be evacuated.

Marcos said this during a sectoral meeting with relevant government agencies in Malacañan on Thursday, Oct. 12, to discuss the status of Filipinos affected by the armed conflict that broke out on Oct. 7, after the militant group Hamas launched land and air attacks.

During the meeting, the President reiterated that the Administration was closely monitoring the war and was coordinating with the Israeli government for updates to ensure the welfare of Filipinos in the war-torn nation.

He urged the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) to develop strong repatriation plans and explore all evacuation strategies to assist affected Filipinos.

Meanwhile, Marcos assured those repatriated that the government would assist them in addressing their immediate needs, such as financial, livelihood, scholarship, and food assistance.

Data from the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) showed that there are around 30,500 Filipinos living in Israel, 99 percent of whom are working as caregivers.

Four Filipinos are still missing as of Thursday evening, while two have been confirmed dead.

President Marcos called the families of the Filipinos who died in the attacks and vowed to provide them with the necessary assistance.

Israeli Ambassador to the Philippines Ilan Fluss assured President Marcos that Israel is committed to the safety and well-being of the Filipinos in Israel. The envoy thanked the Chief Executive for standing by Israel against the Hamas attacks.

The DFA has raised Crisis Alerts Levels 2 and 3 in Israel and the Gaza Strip.
