In line with the celebration of Consumer Welfare Month (CWM) themed "GenS: Generation Sustainable,” the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) conducted a tree planting activity at the La Union Botanical Garden last Oct. 9.
In collaboration with the Region l Consumer Affairs Council (RCAC) and the City of San Fernando (CENRO), the agency planted 150 Narra and Molave seedlings as part of its "Adopt a Hectare" program.
The program seeks to adopt a more sustainable approach as it aims to instill a sense of environmental responsibility to each participant.
Likewise, DTI Region I encouraged the participants to nurture the native tree species they planted by ensuring the survival of the seedlings through propagating, monitoring, and tree parenting.
DTI La Union Provincial Director Merlie D. Mebrere underscored the importance of trees as the earth’s natural purifier and encouraged the people to take care of the environment by starting to shift to sustainable practices.
“Let us join hands and make a positive impact on our planet, not only today but each day of our lives. Let us be sustainable so the future generation could still enjoy the beauty of the God-given nature,” Mebrere said.
The RCAC agency members, who participated in the activity were representatives from the Department of Health, National Telecommunications Commission, Department of Environment and Natural Resources Region 1, Department of Agriculture and Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources.
