ILOILO CITY – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has issued 77 show-cause orders to candidates in the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections in Western Visayas on October 30 for premature campaigning.

Dennis Ausan, Comelec-6 director, said the number of show-cause orders may be higher as the Comelec Central Office in Intramuros, Manila has also issued separate orders to these candidates.
“The Comelec Central Office in Metro Manila also received direct complaints against the candidates. I just don’t have the exact number,” Ausan said in a phone interview on Thursday, October 12.
These orders were issued in Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental as well as the highly urbanized cities of Iloilo and Bacolod.
Ausan said majority of the complaints were premature campaigning, including Facebook posts made by candidates.
Seventeen candidates were given summons and Ausan recommended that three of them be disqualified for premature campaigning and vote-buying. One candidate was giving away rice and fish to voters.
Ausan is forwarding his recommendation for disqualification against them to the Comelec en banc in Manila.
