Boracay tourism assessed in DOT survey

ILOILO CITY – The Department of Tourism (DOT) has wrapped up a survey among tourists at world-famous Boracay Island.

“We wanted to measure our tourism products and performances in Boracay, which is a premier destination in the country,” said DOT-6 (Western Visayas) Director Crisanta Marlene Rodriguez.

The DOT-6 and the DOT-Office of Tourism Development, Planning, Research, and Information Management conducted the Tourism Product Market Survey (TPMS) in coordination with the local government of Malay town, Aklan province.

“We needed to know what the thoughts of tourists — their experiences and what they think should be improved,” Rodriguez told Manila Bulletin. “We take comments of tourists very seriously,” added Rodriguez.

Filipino and foreign tourists were surveyed by 10 enumerators in key places in the resort-island.

Boracay is slowly regaining them back when the pandemic ended.

Rodriguez said that the DOT is not only surveying tourists but also wants to know best practices of Boracay for sustainable tourism that can be replicated in other destinations, especially after the Duterte administration began a massive rehabilitation program in 2018 to curb the environmental degradation of the island.
