P2.7-M shabu seized in election checkpoint

CAMP GEN. PACIANO RIZAL, Santa Cruz, Laguna – Police seized suspected shabu worth P2.7 million and a handgun from two men on board a motorcycle in a Commission on Elections checkpoint in line with the barangay elections on the Manila South Road in Purok 2, Barangay Parian, Calamba City, this province, on October 8.

Laguna police director Police Col. Harold Depositar identified the suspects “Jerome” and “Christopher.”

Police flagged down the suspects riding a motorcycle without a license plate and wearing slippers.

Lawmen asked for the motorcycle registration and driver’s license and requested Jerome to open his backpack.

Jerome opened the backpack and police saw a water pipe, prompting them to continue inspecting its contents but the suspect refused, resulting in a physical confrontation.

Police later on found a caliber .45 pistol, a caliber .22 magnum revolver, bullets, and seven plastic sachets of suspected shabu with an estimated weight of 400 grams worth P2.7 million in the bag.

Suspects are under the custody of the police here and face drug-related and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition in relation to the gun ban.

Depositar said: “We will further intensify the implementation of Comelec checkpoints in the province of Laguna to ensure security and order for the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan election (BSKE). This is proof that the Laguna PNP is becoming stricter in conducting the Comelec checkpoint.”
