President Marcos will talk to the family of one of the Filipinos slain in the Israel-Hamas war, Philippine Ambassador to Israel Junie Laylo said Wednesday, Oct. 11.
Laylo said the Philippine embassy already coordinated with the victim's family and the President will do next.
"I spoke to the wife of one of the victims to inform her of the sad news and to convey our sympathies. I promised her that the embassy will provide all the necessary assistance she needs," Laylo said at a public briefing.
"The President will also speak to her today to convey his personal condolences and offer additional assistance," he added.
The President already expressed his condemnation of the killings by Hamas of two Filipinos in Israel and mourned their passing.
"My heart is heavy upon hearing confirmation of the deaths of two Filipinos in Israel. The Philippines condemns these killings and stands firmly against the ongoing terror and violence," he said in a statement as he also vowed to continue supporting affected Filipinos in the war.
Although the intensity of attacks has decreased in most parts of Israel, except in the southern part that is near the Hamas-governed Gaza, Laylo said the embassy will continue coordinating with Israeli authorities to ensure the safety of Filipinos there.
And as much as the embassy would like to immediately extend assistance to Filipinos across Israel, he said, embassy officials must adhere to the strict travel restrictions enforced by Israeli authorities, especially in affected areas.
