Filipino Heritage Awards 2023 honors The Manila Hotel with ‘Century of Excellence in Service’ award

Launched on July 4, 1912, The Manila Hotel is known as one of the pioneer premier hotels in the city

Last Oct. 5, the Philippine Heritage Society honored distinct movers in the local fashion, food, arts, and hospitality industries with the second edition of its Filipino Heritage Awards with the theme “Mga Tala ng Tagumpay.” Among its recipients is the grand dame of hotels in Manila, The Manila Hotel.

During the event, the beloved hotel took home the “Century of Excellence in Service” award, a testament to its unwavering mission of bringing Filipino culture to the forefront of its every service. Launched on July 4, 1912, The Manila Hotel is known as one of the pioneer premier hotels in the city. It witnessed the chaos of World War II and became the official residence of General Douglas MacArthur and his family. Through the years, the hotel welcomed notable personalities in its halls, including American novelist Ernest Hemingway, the late King of Pop Michael Jackson, Hollywood actor Marlon Brando, astronaut Neil Armstrong, and members of the Royal Family, among others.

Since then, The Manila Hotel focused on its goal of spotlighting the beauty of Philippine culture with its “blend of history, luxury, and genuine Filipino hospitality.” Recently, it marked its 111-year legacy with the launch of its “The Manila Hotel: True Heart of the Philippines” coffee table book, featuring “selected archival photos, informative stories, and personal accounts from notable figures to illustrate the hotel's significant role in the cultural and social fabric of the Philippines.”
