Clint Escamis and Marc Cuenco powered Mapua and survived Kurt Reyson's final stand with a 77-71 win in the NCAA Season 99 men’s basketball tournament at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City on Wednesday, Oct. 11.

Escamis, who scattered 20 points, seven rebounds, five assists and eight steals, listed half of his score in the final frame while Cuenco finished with a double-double effort of 20 points and 10 rebounds to help the Cardinals claim their third straight win and improve to 5-1 while also giving the Pirates their first loss in seven games.
“Inapply lang namin lang namin yung mga ginawa naming tama no’ng four wins namin,” Mapua head coach Randy Alcantara said.
“Sharing the ball, box out, rebound tapos depensa sa mga scorers [nila] like Cuajao and Reyson,” he added.
Escamis shifted Mapua’s tempo by opening the final frame with five straight points to douse the 9-0 run spearheaded by Reyson and Vince Cuajao to end the third quarter.
Reyson was a man on fire again for the Pirates as he brought the lead down to five, 76-71. But those were not enough as the clock eventually favored the Cardinals in the endgame.
