House Speaker Martin Romualdez has appealed to the combatants from either side of the Israel-Hamas conflict to "exercise utmost restraint and ensure the safety of civilians".
This, after it was reported that at least two Filipinos have been killed in the fighting.
"The recent loss of two Filipino nationals serves as a somber reminder of the heavy toll conflict takes on innocent lives. I join the nation in our unequivocal condemnation of all acts of terrorism and violence, especially as a result of the actions of Hamas against Israel," Romualdez said in a statement Wednesday, Oct. 11.
"We earnestly appeal to all combatants to exercise utmost restraint and ensure the safety of civilians, including our fellow Filipinos," said the leader of the 300-plus strong House of Representatives.
"Upholding the tenets of international law and the relevant UN (United Nations) Security Council Resolutions is essential, and the Philippines stands ready to cooperate with the international community towards a peaceful and lasting resolution," Romualdez said.
"Above all, the well-being of our kababayans in both Israel and Palestine remains our top priority, and we remain steadfast in our commitment to their safety and in providing all necessary assistance," underscored the Speaker.
