The Department of Health (DOH) is collaborating with the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) to address the overcrowding of patients in its emergency room (ER).

DOH on Wednesday, Oct. 11 pointed out that PGH frequently exceeds its operational capacity, often exceeding 200 percent of its daily limit.
PGH Director Gerardo Legaspi confirmed in an ABS-CBN interview on Oct. 6 that the hospital’s ER has reached its full bed capacity, but it is addressing concerns about overcrowding and long waiting times.
He admitted that PGH’s emergency room capacity has been experiencing issues for some time.
"This has been happening for a long time, and we are just finding ways to attend to all the patients. Our emergency room was originally designed for only 70 patients, but in my latest census, there were 202 patients inside, those who are on beds,” Legaspi said.
DOH said it is actively trying to reduce congestion in public hospitals, including PGH.
It pointed out that initiatives are being made to boost the number of healthcare professionals and build more facilities in order to offer better care to those in need of medical attention. (Zekinah Elize Espina)
