White House lights up in Israeli flag colors; envoy hopes PH will emulate

The White House was illuminated with the blue and white light on Monday night, Oct. 9 (US time), to show support for Israel following attacks by Hamas militants that left hundreds of people dead.

United States President Joe Biden shared a photo of the White House lit up in the blue and white colors of the Israeli flag on Tuesday, Oct. 10 (Manila time).
“Tonight, America says clearly to the Israeli people, to the world, and to terrorists everywhere that we stand with Israel,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
“That will never change,” Biden stressed.
His post was retweeted by US Ambassador to the Philippines MaryKay Loss Carlson.
In a statement, the White House announced its gesture “symbolizes the ironclad support and solidarity of the American people with the people of Israel in the wake of the barbaric terrorist attacks committed by Hamas.”
The White House noted that Israel and the United States have a 75-year long relationship.
Czech Ambassador to the Philippines Karel Hejč also shared a post by the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which expressed support for Israel.

Meanwhile, Israeli Ambassador to the Philippines Ilan Fluss also hoped that the Philippines can fly Israel’s flag in the capital.
“It’s good to know Israel has global support. Thanks to so many messages of support and prayers I get from so many friends from different circles. It is much appreciated. Can we have the Israeli flag lighten up somewhere in metro Manila?,” he asked in a recent Facebook post.
The comment was shared with the Israel Ministry of Foreign Affairs post of Germany’s Brandenburg Gate lit up in the blue and white colors of Israel’s flag.
International response poured in after the Palestinian group Hamas launched the biggest attack on the Jewish state in decades, with many hostages taken and civilians killed.
The surprise rocket barrage and ground, air, and sea offensive was initiated by militant group Hamas from the Gaza Strip over the weekend.
Israel announced it is at war against the Hamas group, and countries have started evacuating their nationals from the country.
