PNP warns public vs fake news on social media, denies string of robbery incidents in QC
The Philippine National Police (PNP) urged the public not to believe the circulating messages in the social media about the alleged string of robberies in Quezon City.
PNP chief Gen. Benjamin Acorda, Jr. said all the reports on robberies in at least three business establishments in Quezon City are false.
“We urge everyone to stay alert and cautious of unverified information encounter in cyberspaces. The PNP is always here to serve and protect you from street crimes and even from cybercrimes”, said Acorda.
The establishments mentioned in the fake news reports include Namiya Izakaya, located at Sct. Tobias, Quezon City, which was allegedly robbed of Php100,000.00 worth of cash, jewelry, and cellphones.
Additionally, Banawe Starbucks in Brgy. Lourdes, Quezon City, and Shangri-La Chinese Seafood Cuisine at No. 3 Times St., Brgy. West Triangle, were also falsely reported to have been robbed of a total of PHP250,000.00.
Police Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan, director of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD), said they already verified the reports and were found to be fake news.
“These viral incidents are untrue. Similar messages have surfaced on social media in previous years as well,” said Maranan.
“There is no concrete evidence to support the claims of these alleged robbery incidents,” he added.
