Celebrating unity, friendship, and cross-cultural collaboration, the Ambassador of Malaysia to the Philippines, H.E. Dato’ Abdul Malik Melvin Castelino, led the celebration of the 66th National Day of Malaysia.
It was held last Sept. 22 at the newly reopened Makati Shangri-la, with distinguished guests from the diplomatic corps, Philippine government officials, representatives of the Malaysian community, and members of the private sector in attendance.
In his speech, Amb. Castelino highlighted the meetings of Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., which took place in July.
He also expressed gratitude for the warm welcome he has received in the country. “All of us are happy to be in this beautiful country, filled with people who are warm, gracious, and welcoming,” the ambassador said.
Malaysia remains committed to collaborating with the Philippines on various sectors, including the Halal industry, digitalization, tourism, and culture, the ambassador added.
Celebrated every Aug. 31, Merdeka Day commemorates the Malaysian declaration of independence from British rule in 1957.
