BSKE candidate arrested for selling illegal drugs in Sta. Mesa, Manila

The Manila Police District (MPD) announced on Tuesday, Oct. 10, the arrest of a candidate for barangay councilor in Sta. Mesa, Manila.
Police identified the suspect as Rolando Supan, 45, a resident of Barangay 600, Sta. Mesa, Manila, and a running candidate for council in the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) 2023.
MPD said the arrest stemmed from the memorandum issued by the MPD- District Drug Enforcement Unit last Sept. 20, stating to dispatch policemen to conduct a buy-bust operation to validate the information about the illegal activities of the suspect.
The suspect was categorized as a "user" in the watch list of Barangay 600.
The buy-bust operation was conducted at around 1:45 a.m. last Sept. 22, at the roof deck of the suspect's house where he was arrested after he sold "shabu" amounting to P500 to the poseur buyer.
Based on the investigation, the suspect was also a former personnel of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) for six years at Olongapo City Jail with the status of absent without official leave (AWOL) since 2016.
Police said the suspect's wife died in 2016 due to aplastic anemia, which caused him to go AWOL and get involved in illegal drugs.
Authorities also found out that his room on the roof deck was rented as a drug den.
The arrested suspect will face charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Act of 2002.
