33% of Filipinos say quality of life better than a year ago — SWS

A Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey revealed that 33 percent of adult Filipinos had a better quality-of-life compared to 12 months ago, while 22 percent experienced worsening conditions, and 45 percent reported no change from the previous year.
The results of the nationwide survey conducted from June 28 to July 1 were released on Tuesday, Oct. 10.
SWS used the term “gainers” for those who believe their quality of life got better, “losers” for those who think their quality of life worsened, and “unchanged” for those who said it stayed the same.
The latest figures translate into a net gainers score of +11 (percentage of gainers minus percentage of losers), which is classified by SWS as “very high” (+10 to +19).
“The June 2023 Net Gainer score was six points above the high +5 in March 2023. However, it is still seven points below the pre-pandemic level of very high +18 in December 2019,” SWS said.
‘Very high’ net gainer score in all areas except Mindanao
SWS pointed out that compared to March 2023, net gainers rose from high to very high in Metro Manila, up by 16 points from +2 to +18.
It also rose sharply from mediocre to very high in the Visayas, up by 24 points from -14 to +10.
Meanwhile, it stayed very high in Balance Luzon, hardly moving from +12 to +13, while it remained high in Mindanao, although down by four points from +6 to +2.
‘Excellent’ score among college grads, ‘very ‘high among junior HS grads
Compared to March 2023, SWS said net gainers stayed excellent among college graduates, up by five points from +20 to +25.
It rose from high to very high among junior high school graduates, up by 10 points from +7 to +17, and from fair to high among non-elementary graduates, up by six points from -5 to +1.
Meanwhile, it moved from high to fair among elementary graduates, hardly changing from +1 to -1.
Net Gainers scores are classified by SWS as follows: “excellent” for +20 and above; “very high” for +10 to +19; “high” for +1 to +9; “fair” for -9 to zero; “mediocre” for -19 to -10; “low” for -29 to -20; “very low” for -39 and -30; and “extremely low” for -50 and below.
The Second Quarter 2023 SWS survey involved face-to-face interviews of 1,500 adult respondents nationwide, with sampling error margins of ±2.5 percent for national percentages, ±4 percent in Balance Luzon, and ±5.7 percent in Metro Manila.
