QCPD files raps vs owners of fire-hit t-shirt factory
The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) has filed a case of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide against the owners of a t-shirt factory in Barangay Tandang Sora, Quezon City that was razed by fire on Aug. 31, leaving 15 persons dead.
This was confirmed by the Quezon City government on Saturday, Sept. 30, saying that the remaining incorporators of the MGC Warehouse Inc. were charged after the government and the local police conducted separate investigations for nearly a month.

The residential area turned t-shirt factory on Pleasant View Subdivision, Barangay Tandang Sora, owned by MGC Warehouse Inc. was gutted by the blaze at around 5:30 a.m. on Aug. 31.
Among the 15 fatalities of the incident were one of the owners of the factory and his family.
The city government said it formed a special panel while the QCPD created a task force, which pursued separate investigations to determine possible lapses in the incident, and ensure that justice will be served to the victims and their families.
During the investigations, the QCPD Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDU), together with his operatives, proceeded to Occidental Mindoro, to locate the families of the fire victims.
The Office of Occidental Mindoro Governor Eduardo Gadiano provided aid to the police in locating the families.
Operatives also went to Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro to get the statements of some of the victims' family members.
As a result of their investigation, a case of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide was filed against the surviving incorporators of MGC Warehouse, Inc. identified as Catherine Sy, Lina Cavilte,Johanna Cavilte, and Geoffrey Cavilte.
“We hope that through this development, justice will be served to the 15 individuals who perished during that unfortunate incident. We appreciate the effort of the Quezon City Police District for being committed to feret out the truth,” Mayor Joy Belmonte said.
"I am immensely proud of the dedication and hard work exhibited by our operatives during this challenging investigation. They have shown exceptional resolve in their mission to bring those responsible to account and provide solace to the victims and their families. I also extend my gratitude to the community for its continued support and cooperation to solve the incident. Together, as one united force, we will strive to prevent such tragedies in the future and ensure the safety and well-being of all our residents,” QCPD Director Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan said.
The families of the victims also thanked the QC government and the QCPD for pursuing the criminal charges against the owners of the factory.
The mayor earlier called on the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) to conduct a thorough investigation on the incident and to undertake reforms in the BFP-Quezon City Fire District (BFP-QCFD).
She made her call to the fire agency after the city government and the Quezon City Council revealed lax inspection, backlog in the examination of businesses, and other lapses in the performance of the BFP-QCFD.
The mayor also ordered the City Legal Department to form a Special Panel of Investigators to probe the incident and if warranted by evidence, to file the appropriate case(s) against pertinent and surviving officers of the business establishment involved in the incident.
The city government said that its personnel who will be found to be liable after the conduct of the investigation will also face administrative and criminal charges.
