PNP finds new leads in probe into killing of female Abra lawyer
The firearm that was used in the killing of a female lawyer in Abra was also used in at least three shooting incidents, indicating that the assailants are members of a gun-for-hire group, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said.
PNP spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo said another positive lead in the conduct of the investigation into the killing of lawyer Maria Saniata Liwliwa Alzate was that the motorcycle used by the gunmen was already recovered.
“Based on the macro-etching that was done on the recovered motorcycle, it was found out that the motorcycle was bought in July 2023 by a company which later sold it to an individual,” said Fajardo.
“Also based on the cross-matching of the recovered fired cartridges, these matched previous shooting incidents. So there are strong indications that the assailants involved are possibly members ng gun for hire group,” she added.
On Sept. 14, Alzate was on board his car in Bangued when gunmen started shooting her. She was declared dead in a hospital after suffering at least eight bullet wounds.
Police investigators have already identified at least one suspect and Fajardo said they are now preparing the necessary documents for the filing of the case.
