"We are excited to announce that Transactions NAST PHL has expanded its horizons to welcome contributions from the global scientific community across all fields of study," President of NAST PHL Jaime C. Montoya said.

"This occasion is significant not only because it comes at a crucial time but also because it relates to how important it is for us to uphold our mission as a scientific institution leading the path toward making the country excellent," he added.

In this particular volume, NAST has adopted the theme of "Agham at Teknolohiya para sa Demokrasya (Science and Technology for Democracy)," highlighting the pivotal role of science and technology in addressing the challenges posed to democracy while still harnessing it.

For the 45th Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) and the 2023 Regional Scientific Meeting, the theme is "firmly grounded on the role of science and technology in catalyzing and advancing developmental empowerment in a democracy," according to DOST.

These meetings serve as a platform for discussions on science and technology's contributions to strengthening democratic institutions, including renewable energy technologies, mobile wireless telephony for farmers, blockchain's potential, and the impact of automatic vote-counting machines and social media on democracy.

Montoya noted this inclusive approach allows "a diversity of ideas, fostering collaboration and furthering collective knowledge."

"Even from agricultural sciences to social sciences, we encourage submissions that push the boundaries of research and innovation," he added.

Meanwhile, in a message of support, President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos highlighted the role of NAST PHL in national development, describing it as an "advisory body that plays a crucial role in concerning the scientific community."

"As President, I assure you that you have my full support in pursuing your academic endeavors and widening the horizons of the world we live in through research and innovation. Together, let us carry the torch of knowledge and light the path towards a brighter future for generations to come," he added.

Since 2021, with the introduction of Volume 43, Transactions NAST PHL has been open to contributions from the global scientific community in all fields.
