ZAMBOANGA CITY -- Four persons, including a minor, were injured when lawless elements fired at a Philippine Army detachment in Barangay Sabong, Lamitan City, Basilan on Sunday night, Jan. 8.
Lt. Col. Arlan Delumpines, Lamitan chief of police, said a group of lawless elements linked to the Abu Sayyaf Group strafed the detachment of the 181st Brigade at 7:50 p.m.
The gunmen used high-powered firearms and immediately fled after the incident.
Four civilians sustained bullet wounds and were immediately brought to the Lamitan City District Hospital.
Militiaman Romy M. Alano, 36, of Barangay Lebbuh, was critically wounded.
The three other victims were identified as Hasma M. Akah, 30; Jonie M. Alano, 10; and Nasira S. Moreno, 22.
Police are investigating the incident and have set up a checkpoint in the area to prevent any untoward incidents.
