TACLOBAN CITY -- Due to the low-pressure area (LPA) affecting Visayas and Mindanao, heavy rain and flooding were experienced here and other areas in Eastern Visayas on Monday, Jan. 9.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council issued a red rainfall warning in Leyte and Biliran, prompting some schools to send their students home.
On the other hand, an orange rainfall warning was issued in the provinces of Southern Leyte, Eastern Samar, and Samar.
At 3 p.m., the city government ordered the suspension of work in its offices except for those in charge of peace and order, cleanliness, orderliness, health, other emergencies, and business permit processing.
Government vehicles were deployed to transport stranded passengers while the City Engineer's Office declogged and inspected flooded areas, especially in the downtown area.
Meanwhile, due to heavy rain and flood in several areas in Northern Samar, Gov. Edwin Ongchuan suspended classes on all levels in private and public schools on Tuesday, Jan. 10.
