The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) said that 467 jail officials and personnel yielded negative results after they were submitted to a surprise drug test on Monday, Jan. 9.

BJMP chief Allan Iral ordered the drug test after the flag-raising ceremony at the national headquarters (NHQ) in Quezon City, saying this was held to support to the campaign against illegal drugs of Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benjamin Abalos Jr.
"The surprise drug test is part of our support to the call of SILG Abalos to cleanse our rank from any involvement in illegal drugs, and to exemplify professionalism and discipline among our personnel,” Iral said.
The surprise drug test was administered by the Directorate for Health Service of the BJMP-NHQ.
“Let this be a validation of our firm stance and commitment to eradicate not only corruption but also illegal drugs in our facilities,” he added.
While the surprise drug test yields negative results, Iral reminded the top-level officials that the BJMP “will not think twice about filing criminal and administrative cases against those who will be found to be involved in the illegal drug trade.’’
“We are not putting limits on what we can accomplish especially in the fight against drugs. We will not tolerate any proven wrongdoing even if it means dismissing from service our own officers,” Iral continued.
