SUV plows into road shoulder, kills 19-year old girl, injures six others in Lucena City
LUCENA CITY, Quezon -- A 19-year-old lass died while six others, including three minors were injured after they were hit by an SUV whose driver claimed he fell asleep in an accident on Sunday noon, Jan. 8, in Brgy. Isabang here.
The Lucena City police identified the lone fatality as Kristine Advincula, a resident of Landing Road, Barangay Ibabang Iyam, also in this city. She sustained fatal injuries in her body and died in the hospital.
The report said that a Toyota Fortuner driven by Niño Arvin Binay Saculles was traversing along Old Maharlika highway at around 2:45 p.m.
The investigators said the driver claimed he fell asleep and lost control on the steering wheel, resulting in his SUV plowing into the victims who were standing at the road shoulder.
The lone fatality was Advincula who was about to cross the road when she was bumped off by the car and got stuck between the concrete electric post.
The injured victims ages 2, 5 and 6, and three others whose names were not yet available at press time, were brought by the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office to the hospital.
The driver who was arrested by the Lucena City Police is now facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and multiple physical injuries.
