Rains persist in parts of Visayas, Mindanao due to LPA's trough — PAGASA

The trough or extension of the low pressure area (LPA) spotted outside the country’s area of responsibility may continue to cause rains over parts of Visayas and Mindanao, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Sunday, Jan. 8.
In its 11 a.m. weather advisory, PAGASA said that moderate to heavy rains may prevail over Eastern Visayas, Central Visayas, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Agusan del Norte, and Misamis Oriental.
Meanwhile, light to heavy rains may affect Western Visayas, Davao Region, the rest of Caraga, and the rest of Northern Mindanao.
Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Bicol Region, Aurora, and Quezon may also have cloudy and rainy weather due to the northeast monsoon, locally called “amihan.”
“Under these conditions, flooding and rain-induced landslides are possible, especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards as identified in hazard maps and in areas with significant antecedent rainfall,” PAGASA warned.
PAGASA advised the public and concerned disaster risk reduction and management offices to take all necessary precautionary measures.
Meanwhile, the rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with light rains due to the northeast monsoon.
