CAMP DANGWA, Benguet -- More than P5.7 million worth of illegally cut lumber were confiscated while 60 individuals were arrested during an intensified anti-illegal logging operations by the Police Regional Office-Cordillera in the year 2022.
Records from the Regional Operations Division (ROD) showed that the Cordillera cops conducted a total of 167 anti-illegal logging operations which resulted in the arrest of 60 individuals who were caught in the act of engaging in illegal logging activities.
The operations have also resulted in the confiscation of 62,197.05 board feet of illegally sawn lumbers amounting to P5,738,719.54.
Brig. General Mafelino Bazar, director of Cordillera Police Regional Office, said that the Benguet Police Provincial Office has recorded the highest number of arrests with 17, followed by the Baguio City Police Office with 13 arrests; Apayao PPO with 10 arrests; Mountain Province PPO with 8 arrests; Ifugao PPO with 6 arrests, and Abra PPO and Kalinga PPO with three arrests each.
The PROCOR cops have also remained active in their environmental preservation efforts through the conduct of various tree-planting activities, clean-up drives, and forest patrols.
Based on the records of the Regional Community Affairs and Development Division (RCADD), for C.Y. 2022, PROCOR cops were able to plant a total of 146,769 seedlings of assorted fruit-bearing and non-fruit-bearing trees in the different areas in the Cordillera region.
