LTO enforcers apprehend 5 taxi drivers for snubbing passengers in Pasay City
Enforcers of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) have apprehended five taxi drivers for allegedly refusing to convey passengers during separate operations in Pasay City.
LTO-National Capital Region West director Roque Verzosa said the passengers came from the provinces after a Holiday vacation and arrived at the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX).
He said the operation was in response to the complaints of commuters regarding picky taxi drivers who also overcharge passengers.
Implemented from Jan. 3- 5, LTO enforcers were deployed to bus terminals to ensure that taxi drivers would not refuse returning passengers from the provinces to be conveyed to their homes.
Verzosa said refusal to convey passengers is in violation of the Joint Administrative Order No. 2014-01.
He then reminded taxi drivers to perform their responsibilities well amid the increasing number of people needing public transportation.
The penalty for refusal to render service to the public or convey passenger to destination" ranging from P5,000 up to P15,000.
The maximum penalty is the cancellation of the Certificate of Public Conveyance (CPC), a major requirement in operating a public utility vehicle.
Other operations were also done in different areas in Metro Manila under the jurisdiction of LTO-NCR-West.
