3,096 Bulakenyos evacuate due to flood

The Provincial Government of Bulacan (PGB) reported on Sunday, Jan. 8, that 3,096 Bulakenyos affected by flood due to the need to release excess water from the Angat, Ipo, and Bustos Dams were already evacuated and given family food packs.

Based on the regional weather forecast issued by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Jan. 8, which is valid from 5 a.m. until 5 p.m., the weather situation in the province of Bulacan is partly cloudy to cloudy skies with light rains wherein wind is light to moderate from the northeast.

Bulacan Governor Daniel R. Fernando personally monitored the dams and the flooding situations in the province at the Communication, Control and Command Center (C4) at the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office and gave his directives to further ensure the safety of the Bulakenyos.

“Una sa lahat, siguraduhin natin na coordinated ang mga pamahalaang lokal sa mga inilalabas na anunsiyo ng Provincial Government of Bulacan. Agad na ipaalam sa kanila ang mga detalye sa pagre-release ng tubig sa dam at siguraduhin na ang mga apektadong pamilya at komunidad ay nailikas na. Tinitiyak rin natin na mabibigyan ang bawat pamilyang apektado ng mga family food pack habang sila ay nananatili sa evacuation centers,” (First of all, let's make sure that the local governments coordinate with the announcement of the Provincial Government of Bulacan. Give them immediate details of the water release of the dams and ensure that affected families and communites were evacuated. We also ensure that every family affected were given food packs while they are staying at the evacuation centers)," the Bulacan governor said.

On Saturday, Jan. 7, Fernando and the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office headed by Rowena J. Tiongson went to Barangay Matictic in Norzagaray town and distributed family food packs to 500 families affected by the floods.

From Norzagaray, the group also conducted relief operations for 1,190 families affected by flooding in the City of Baliwag; San Rafael; Angat; Plaridel, and Pulilan.
