The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed a 4.4 kilometer road, which it said, has economically benefited the local farmers in the highland communities in Lemery, iloilo.
In a statement on Jan 7, DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan said the concreted road has provided a more convenient route for the farmers to deliver their products in the local and nearby markets while decreasing their hauling costs and travel time.

Built at a cost of P90 million, Bonoan noted that the road improvement project involves the upgrading of the Cabantohan-Lemery Road from gravel into a two-lane concrete with stone masonry and grouted riprap.
DPWH Region 6 Director Nerie Bueno disclosed that the project will also provide commuters and motorists with better access to schools, health facilities, public and commercial establishments and other basic government office destinations.
“Local communities, particularly those in remote areas, can now experience an easier and safer travel with the upgraded road instead of the muddy and dangerous gravel road which was prone to mudslide and landslide during heavy rains,” Bueno maintained.
The DPWH Iloilo Third District Engineering Office implemented the road concreting project through the 2021 General Appropriations Act (GAA). (Chito A. Chavez)
