Rain showers prevail over most of PH due to shear line, northeast monsoon – PAGASA

Cloudy skies with scattered rain showers may persist in most parts of Luzon and Visayas on Friday, Jan. 6, due to the prevalence of shear line and the northeast monsoon, locally known as “amihan.”

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Friday morning said the shear line is still affecting the eastern sections of Southern Luzon and Visayas, while the northeast monsoon is still blowing cold winds and causing rains in the rest of Luzon.

Shear line is particularly bringing cloudy skies with scattered rain showers in Bicol Region, MIMAROPA, Visayas, Caraga, and Quezon. The state weather bureau strongly warned residents of these areas to be alert against possible flooding and landslides that may occur during moderate to at times heavy rains.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila, Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, the rest of CALABARZON, Aurora, Nueva Ecija, and Bulacan may expect cloudy skies with rains on Friday due to the northeast monsoon.

The rest of Mindanao, according to PAGASA, may experience partly cloudy skies and only isolated rain showers that may be brought by localized thunderstorms.

“Sa kasalukuyan ay wala tayong minomonitor na sama ng panahon na maaaring makaapekto sa ating bansa (Currently, we are not monitoring any weather disturbance that could affect our country),” said PAGASA Weather Specialist Grace Castañeda in a public weather forecast.
