PRO 4-B chief backs Abalos plea

CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro – Brig. Gen. Sidney S. Hernia, Police Regional Office 4-B (Mimaropa or the Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan area) chief, backed the call of Secretary Benjamin Abalos Jr. of the Department of the Interior and Local Government to all full-fledged colonels and generals in the Philippine National Police to submit their courtesy resignations.

Hernia said the response of chief PNP Gen. Rodolfo S. Azurin Jr. to the call by tendering his resignation exhibits his strong commitment to eliminating a few rouge cops allegedly involved in the illegal drugs trade.

“I strongly believe that the pronouncement of Secretary Abalos calling for the courtesy resignation of all high-ranking officials is a concrete manifestation of his sincere intention to cleanse the PNP as the premier law enforcement agency of the country," Hernia said.

"It is very fitting that amidst this turmoil, a fair and independent investigation shall be launched to pinpoint and eliminate the few scalawags in our ranks. In this way, we will regain our credibility as a competent and reliable police force,” Hernia added.

Hernia said that as an assurance to the public, the PRO 4-B will further intensify its campaign against illegal drugs and internal cleansing to make the region drug-cleared in the future.
