Pimentel not surprised over acquittal of Remulla’s son

The acquittal by a Las Piñas City Regional Trial Court of Juanito Jose Remullla III, son of Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla, from illegal drug charges does not surprise Senate Minority Leader Aquilino Pimentel III at all.

‘’From the basic facts of the case as I have gathered from the news reports, I am not surprised that the accused has been acquitted,’’ Pimentel, a bar topnotcher, said in a statement issued to Senate reporters today.

He said the young Remulla was arrested when the package was handed over to him and it was a closed package.

Pimentel noted that the law enforcers waited for media representatives to arrive before opening the package in front of the accused.

‘“The quick action of the court is commendable. I just hope that this example of quick action of the court can also be experienced by others who are involved in the Philippine justice system,” he pointed out.

Pimentel, a former Senate President, said that quick action could be conviction or acquittal but ‘’what is important is that the delivery of justice be speedy.’’

He emphasized the saying that “justice delayed is justice denied.’’
