The Philippines and China are strengthening their digital cooperation, a move that will accelerate the country's own digitalization, Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Secretary Ivan John E. Uy said Friday, Jan. 6.
The DICT Secretary signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) enhancing ICT cooperation and exchange between the two countries during President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s state visit this week to the People’s Republic of China.
“This MOU will also pave the way for further agreements for the execution of ICT projects and support our efforts to accelerate digitalization," he maintained.
The MOU was among 14 bilateral agreements inked during the President’s state visit.
The MOU will strengthen digital cooperation between the Philippines and China in the areas of emerging technologies, telecommunication, digital governance, and radio spectrum management, among others.
The agreement covers the exchange of knowledge, technical expertise and best practices in emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), 5G, cloud computing, Internet of Things, industrial Internet, big data, analytics and robotics.

Furthermore, it will enhance support to the pragmatic cooperation between Philippine and Chinese enterprises in the telecommunication industry.
The MOU paves the way for exchanges in best practices about 6G vision requirements and 5G use cases, as well as 5G and 6G technology innovation, 6G system concepts and Architecture.
On the area of e-governance, the two nations agree to exchange knowledge and share best practices in digital government strategy, digital government services, and digital identity.
They will likewise exchange best practices about data center design standard, and explore potential partnership to establish data center projects in accordance with international standards for facility design, operations, and data privacy and security.
