The National Telecommunications Commision (NTC) has recorded over 14 million Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) card registrants more than a week after the mandatory registration began.
Based on the latest tally issued by the NTC, Smart Communications Inc. still has the highest number of registrants so far with a total of 7,206,528. It was followed by Globe Telecom with 6,388,232, and Dito Telecommunity with 1,263,407 registered subscribers.
As of Thursday, Jan. 5, a total of 14,858,167 Filipinos have so far registered their SIMs.

Under the Republic Act No. 11934 or the SIM Registration Act, all new and existing users shall register their SIMs within 180 days beginning Dec. 27. Failure to comply with this mandatory registration will result in the deactivation of a user’s SIM.
In relation to this, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) urged the public to register their SIMs early to avoid “any inconvenience” due to the tight deadline implemented.
