Fewer crimes, traffic accidents recorded in Bacolod in 2022

BACOLOD CITY – Crimes and traffic accidents here slightly decreased in 2022.

The Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) reported that there were only 1360 accidents in the year just past, 79 lesser than 1439 incidents recorded in 2021.

For peace and order, a total of 1,079 crime incidents were reported last year which was 78 or 6.74 percent lesser than the 2021 wherein 1,157 cases were reported.

Index crimes such as crimes against person and property, and non-index crimes such as violations of special laws, were included in the record.

For index crimes, BCPO has recorded 260 incidents in 2022, with a reduction of 75 or 22.38 percent, from 335 incidents in 2021.

For the eight focus crimes, 259 incidents were recorded in 2022, with a decrease of 73 or 21.98 percent, compared to 332 incidents in 2021.

Theft has had the highest number of cases with 92; followed by rape with 63; murder 47, robbery 23; physical injury 17; homicide 9; carnapping of motorcycles 6; and carnapping 2.

For non-index crimes, 819 cases were reported in 2022 from 822 cases in 2021.

For public safety, including traffic accidents, the BCPO recorded 1 or 0.35 percent reduction from 282 cases in 2021 to 281 in 2022.

Lt. Col. Sherlock Gabana, spokesperson of the Bacolod City police, said the presence of more policemen in communities, and the filing of cases against the perpetrators resulted in the reduction.

Gabana also noted the support provided by the force multipliers and other volunteer organizations in helping the police in the anti-criminality campaign here.
