Seven passengers inside van trapped by landslide in Infanta town rescued
QUEZON -- Seven people on board a van were rescued by Infanta Quick Emergency Response Team (Infanta QRT Team) when they were trapped by two landslides in Infanta-Marikina highway in Barangay Magsaysay, Infanta on Thursday, Jan. 5.
The rescue operation was conducted at the boundary in Km 5 of the same highway.
In a report of Infanta LGU, the passengers of the van-for-hire were identified as Jessa Malate, 28; Ronah Fallar, 43; Jessner Malate, 48; Jelah Mhor Malate, 17, all from Polillo town; Kristianilde Joana Lopez,39, Gent Baronia, 40 both of Lucena City, and the van driver, whose identity had yet to be determined as of posting time.
The van, according to the report, was actually on their way to a hospital to bring a patient.
However, they were caught by landslides triggered by continuous rains.
The Infanta QRT team reported that the victims are now in good condition.
Mayor Filipina Grace America has urged his constituents to be always alert, and that they need to evacuate once they are advised to do so.
The mayor also called the attention of the village chieftain to be vigilant as the town had been experiencing heavy rains and the water level in Agos river was going up.
A landslide was also reported to have occurred in Purok 4, Barangay Tanauan in Real town, rendering the road impassable.
