PH, China legislators to link up more after high-level meeting--Romualdez
The legislative bodies of the Philippines and China are bound to have more engagements following President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.'s meeting with National People’s Congress (NPC) Chairman Li Zhanshu in China on Wednesday, Jan. 4.

Thus, said House Speaker Martin Romualdez, who is part of Marcos's delegation in his ongoing state visit in China.
Romualdez believes that the high-level meeting between Marcos and Li will create many opportunities for engagement and cooperation between the legislative bodies of the two Asian nations.
“So, that’s why we will look forward to the invitations that have actually been extended in the previous years but due to Covid, it did not materialize,” Romualdez, Marcos's top ally in the Philippine legislature, said.
The Leyte 1st district congressman reckoned that the President's meeting with the Chinese NPC chairman was a good first step in developing a positive relationship not only with the Chinese legislative body, but with local leaders and policy-makers as well.
Marcos assumed the presidency on June 30, 2022, when much of the world was still in the process of reopening amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
“But now that China is opening up this year, we look forward to seeing these...engagements and these exchanges between the Congress of China and the Congress (House) and Senate of the Philippines come to fruition in the year 2023," Romualdez said.
The Speaker further said that whatever goodwill the President earned in his meeting with the NPC official should deepen and strengthen the relationship of both countries in all aspects.
This is Marcos's first time to visit China as Philippine president.
