LPA east of Roxas City to dissipate within 24 hours, says PAGASA

The state weather bureau on Thursday, Jan. 5, said the low pressure area (LPA) spotted east of Roxas City, Capiz may possibly dissipate within the day.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) is currently monitoring three weather systems: the northeast monsoon, locally called “amihan,” and two LPAs.

One of these two LPAs, however, has already exited the Philippine boundary. As of 3 a.m., it was spotted 450 kilometers (km) south of Kalayaan, Palawan heading towards the southern Vietnam-Malaysia area.

Meanwhile, the LPA inside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) was last seen 50 km east of Roxas City, Capiz. It, according to PAGASA weather specialist Benison Estareja, may possibly dissipate within the 24-hour period.

Although less likely to develop into a tropical cyclone, this LPA is still expected to continue dumping rains in MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Caraga, and Davao Region.

PAGASA strongly advised residents of these areas to be vigilant against possible rain-induced hazards such as flooding and landslides during heavy downpour.

The northeast monsoon, on the other hand, is still blowing cold winds and also causing cloudy skies with rains in Metro Manila, Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Central Luzon, CALABARZON, and Ilocos Region.

“Magpapatuloy ang pag-ulan hanggang tanghali epekto ng northeast monsoon (Rains will persist in Central and Southern Luzon until noon due to the effects of the northeast monsoon),” Estareja warned.

No weather disturbance is expected to develop and enter PAR within the forecast period. Rainy weather, however, may persist until the weekend due to the continuous surge of the northeast monsoon.
