DepEd: P409M needed to reconstruct 42 schools damaged due to shear line, LPA

The estimated cost for the repair and reconstruction of schools that were damaged due to shear line and Low Pressure Area (LPA) in Mindanao is now at P409 million, the Department of Education (DepEd) on Thursday, Jan. 5, said.

Citing data from the Education Cluster Report on schools affected by the shear line and LPA as of Jan. 04, DepEd said that 42 schools were reported to have sustained infrastructure damages.
Of the 42 damaged schools, one is located in Region IX; 30 in Region X, and 11 in Caraga.

Meanwhile, DepEd’s latest data showed that seven schools are being used as Evacuation Centers (ECs).
Currently, one school is in Siargao; one school is in Surigao del Norte, and five schools in Oroquieta City serve as temporary shelters for affected individuals and families.
