BACOLOD CITY – Col. Thomas Joseph Martir, police director here, said he supports the Department of Interior and Local Government’s call for all police officials from the rank of full colonel up to generals to submit courtesy resignation amid the alleged return of the ‘ninja cops’ to the Philippine National Police (PNP).
DILG Secretary Benhur Abalos had earlier called on the so-called ‘ninja cops,’ who are allegedly involved in the recycling of illegal drugs, to tender their courtesy resignation.
Martir said he is a good soldier and that he said he will follow the instruction of the DILG and PNP Chief General Rodolfo Azurin Jr. for the good of the police organization.
Martir said he has no problem with it, stressing that it is part of the internal cleansing of the PNP.
“Gatrabaho man lang ta (We’re just working),” he said.
“We submit,” Martir said, adding that there is a process or investigation to check if any police official has involvement or none.
Martir, however, said he has not submitted his resignation yet, as he is waiting for the advice from the higher office.
He said he will travel to Iloilo City on Jan. 6, to attend a conference with Brig. Gen. Leo Francisco, director of Police Regional Office (PRO)-Western Visayas.
Francisco, earlier, issued a statement, that he is heeding the call of the DILG.
Francisco said he will answer the appeal of the DILG, as this is the chance to clear their names and make a statement that they are supporting the programs and the transformation of the PNP organization.
Francisco said there’s nothing to fear as the truth will come out.
“Let us trust the process of investigating who the rogue cops are,” he had said.
Meanwhile, Col. Leo Pamittan, director of Negros Occidental police, has yet to give his reaction on the matter.
