Metro Manila was placed under the yellow category of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA)'s heavy rainfall warning as of 11 a.m. on Jan. 5.
Other areas that were placed under the yellow category were the provinces of Rizal, Bulacan, Pampanga, Bataan, Zambales, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, and Quezon (General Nakar, Infanta, Real, Burdeos, Panukulan, Patnanungan, Jomalig, Polilio).
The yellow warning indicates "light to moderate with occasional heavy rains." There may also be possible flooding in low-lying areas and near river channels, according to PAGASA.
Several local government units in the CALABARZON region have also declared class suspensions.
According to the Department of Education (DepEd)'s Department Order 37, series of 2022, onsite and online classes from Kindergarten to Grade 12 are automatically cancelled in areas where PAGASA issues a tropical cyclone wind signal (TCWS) alert, from Signal 1 to 5, or a yellow, red, and orange rainfall warning.
