Eight people were injured after a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) hit five other vehicles before crashing into a drugstore in Caloocan City on Wednesday evening, Jan. 4.
Cpl. Froilan Dela Rosa of the Caloocan City Police Station (CCPS) Investigation and Detective Management Section (IDMS) - Traffic North, investigator on case, said the victims were drivers and backriders of the four motorcycles that were hit by the Toyota Innova multi-purpose vehicle being driven by the suspect, Bryan Tan, 29, of Meycauayan, Bulacan.
The CCPS said the suspect was driving his vehicle along Camarin Road, Barangay 174 in the city at around 9 p.m. on Wednesday. Upon reaching the front of Bellefonte Subdivision, the Toyota Innova minivan suddenly bumped a Mitsubishi Adventure vehicle.
Dela Rosa said the suspect continued to drive until his vehicle hit the four motorcycles of the victims in front of Caloocan City Medical Center-North before crashing into the steel roll-up of Genwin Pharmacy.
The victims were rushed to different hospitals for treatment while the vehicles involved also incurred damages.
The investigator said that the suspect was confirmed to be under the influence of liquor when he was brought to the Caloocan City Medical Center-South.
Tan is temporarily detained in the office of the IDMS-Traffic North, police said.
The suspect will be charged for Reckless Imprudence Resulting in Multiple Injuries and Damage to Properties and for violation of Section 53 (Driving While Under the Influence of Liquor or Narcotic Drugs) of the Republic Act 4136 or the “Land Transportation and Traffic Code,” it added.
