36 families displaced by landslide in Eastern Samar

TACLOBAN CITY -- At least 36 families were affected by a landslide due to days of torrential rain in Salcedo Ville, Barangay Tagbacan, Salcedo, Eastern Samar, before dawn on Wednesday, Jan. 4.

It affected Blocks 9, 3, 2, and 1 of the housing project.

No casualties were reported in the landslide that engulfed the materials recovery facility in the area.

Mayor Rochelle Mergal attributed the landslide to the continous rain that affected the stability of the soil.

Mergal said the local government unit (LGU) facilitated the immediate rescue and evacuation of affected residents.

She has ordered a forced evacuation for fear that more landslides will occur amid the bad weather.

A low-pressure area brought rains to the province.
