Businessman shot dead in Batangas

ROSARIO, Batangas -- A 44-year-old businessman was shot dead by a lone gunman near the municipal hall in Barangay Poblacion here on Tuesday, Jan. 3.

The Rosario Municipal Police Station identified the victim as Anselmo Javier Jr., a resident of Barangay Bayawang here.

Police said the victim was onboard his parked cargo van when the suspect wearing a helmet and raincoat appeared and fired at him.

The suspect fled onboard a motorcycle towards San Juan town, this province.

He was declared dead on arrival due to bullet wounds at the Santo Rosario Hospital by Dr. Maricel Amada.

Recovered in the crime scene were eight fired cartridge cases for a caliber .45 handgun.

Police have obtained surveillance footages and conducting a manhunt against the suspect.

Motive of the crime is yet to be determined.
