12-year-old girl who drowned in Negros retrieved in Guimaras


BACOLOD CITY -- Rescuers retrieved the remains of a 12-year-old girl in Guimaras on Wednesday, Jan. 4, after she reportedly went missing when she drowned in Barangay Cadiz Viejo, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental on Jan. 1.

The name of the minor-victim was withheld.

Cadiz police chief Lt. Col. Gil John Despi said the victim and her cousin went swimming on New Year’s Day. However, they got separated when they went to the sea.

Despi said huge waves hit the cousins, but the victim was no longer seen.

The police also said that based on the statement of the survivor, the victim and her cousin had had a drinking session before they went to the sea.

A search and rescue operation was conducted until the victim’s body was retrieved three days later somewhere in Guimaras.
