The National Irrigation Administration (NIA) has turned over around P45 million worth of project which uses solar power in the irrigation system for farmers in Surigao del Norte.
In a statement, NIA Caraga Regional Manager, June S. Plaza sad the project was turned over to the Sta. Paz Farmer Irrigators Association, Inc. in a bid to enable the farmers to produce rice for the community and eventually contribute in increasing rice production in the country.
Plaza said the P45 million worth solar project is located at in Barangays Sta. Paz and San Isidro in Surigao de Norte.
The construction started March last year and was completed seven months later.
"It consists of the supply, drilling, and installation of nine sets of solar-powered pumps as well as canalization and canal structures designed to irrigate 95 hectares of agricultural land with 65 farmer-beneficiaries," said Plaza.
Plaza joined local officials during the ceremonial turnover and the signing of documents on Jan. 26.
