Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte has expressed her full support to the Pambansang Pabahay Para sa Pilipino Housing Program (4PH), a flagship program of the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., that aims to build six million housing units for Filipino families in six years.
The lady mayor voiced her stand during the groundbreaking ceremony of the Batasan Development Urban Renewal Program at the Batasan Tricycle Operators and Driver’s Association (BaTODA) Terminal in Barangay Batasan Hills, Quezon City on Tuesday, Jan. 31.
In her opening remarks during the event which was broadcast live on Radio Television Malacanang’s (RTVM) Facebook page, Belmonte thanked the President and the Department of Human Settlement and Urban Development (DHSUD) for choosing Quezon City as one of the cities to first implement the housing program.
Under the Batasan Development Urban Renewal Program, which is under the 4PH, two 36-story residential condominiums will be built at the corner of Batasan Road and Commonwealth Avenue in the city.
The towers will have over 2,000 units for the members of the BaTODA and their families, and other informal settler families in the city.
The ground floor of the building will be a tricycle terminal and those who will live there will have complete access to schools, markets, hospitals, and various means of livelihood, Marcos Jr. said.
“Ang dalawang mixed used residential at commercial tower na uusbong dito ay mahalagang bahagi ng flagship housing program na Pambansang Pabahay Para sa Pilipino Program, 0 ISF (informal settler families) program for 2028 or 4PH. Kaya naman isa itong karangalan para sa amin (The two mixed used residential and commercial towers that will rise here are important part of the flagship housing program, the Pambansang Pabahay Para sa Pilipino Program, 0 ISF (informal settler families) program for 2028 or 4PH. That is why it is an honor for us),” Belmonte said.
“Ito rin ay patunay na tinutupad ng Pangulo ang kanyang mga pangako. Dahil sa mismong barangay na ito, binanggit niya ang kanyang pagnanais na maisakatuparan ang malawakang pabahay (This is also a proof that the President fulfills his promises. Because in this very barangay, he mentioned his desire to implement mass housing)," the mayor added.
She said that the housing project will provide decent homes to the citizens, including the BaTODA that has over 7,000 members.
“Ngayong bumabangon na tayo mula sa pandemiya, masarap isipin na katuwang natin ang Pangulo sa pagbibigay katuparan sa mga proyektong magtitiyak sa mas maayos na buhay para sa ating mga mamamayan (Now that we are recovering from the pandemic, it is good to think that the President is our partner in implementing projects that will ensure a better life for our people)," she said.
"Makakaasa po kayo ng aming buong supporta at maagap na pagkilos para mabilis na maisakatuparan ang pagpapatupad ng anim na milyong tahananan (You can count on our full support and prompt action to expedite the construction of six million homes)," Belmonte told the President.
The mayor said that the city government remains committed to implementing its housing program, in partnership with the national government, that will benefit the residents including those who live near the waterways.
She said that the national government's housing project will lead to the growth of the city and more jobs will be created for the residents.
The President also thanked Belmonte and the local government for their support to the national government by allocating land and financial resources for the housing program.
The housing program was first launched in the city in the same barangay in September 2022.
