Rains prevail over parts of PH due to shear line, 'amihan'

The shear line and northeast monsoon may bring rains over parts of the country in the next few days, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Monday, Jan. 30.

Cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the shear line may affect Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Caraga, and Davao Region in the next 24 hours.

PAGASA weather specialist Obet Badrina said the effect of the shear line—the boundary between cold air from the northeast monsoon and warm air from the easterlies—may likely persist in Visayas and Mindanao until Wednesday, Feb. 1.

In the next 24 hours, cloudy and rainy weather may also prevail over Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Bicol Region, Aurora, Quezon, Marinduque, and Romblon due to the northeast monsoon or “amihan.”

Those in areas affected by the shear line and amihan are advised to remain vigilant during moderate to heavy rains as they may cause flooding or landslides.

Meanwhile, the rest of Luzon will have partly cloudy to cloudy weather with light amihan rains.

PAGASA said the rest of Mindanao will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.

It also advised the public to stay vigilant against possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.
